Our mission is to enable young investors to work with other talented and highly-motivated students in an environment similar to an investment firm.

Learning Opportunity

We provide students with a unique opportunity to manage a $700,000+ portion of the University of Michigan’s endowment. By joining the Fund, students gain access to an expansive array of resources, advanced discussions, an alumni network, professional mentorship, and top-tier investing education comparable to true investment firms. The Fund is organized into 3-4 person pitch teams led by a Senior Analyst, each responsible for sourcing and pitching public equity investment opportunities as well as monitoring ongoing investments.

Membership Qualifications

The Fund is open to all BBA and MBA students who have taken FIN 300 (BBA) or FIN 503 (MBA) as a prerequisite course. Members typically spend at least two years involved in the management of the fund, working in teams to evaluate current holdings and propose new investments. Students who join typically have some background in financial analysis, an eagerness to learn about investing, and deep intellectual curiosity. Furthermore, the Fund fosters a rigorous environment and those who join should be prepared to put their full efforts into fund activities.

Investment Style

Efforts are focused on identifying undervalued US equity securities for long-term investment. In identifying investments, students leverage industry research, financial statement analysis and valuation analyses including discounted cash flow modeling, comparable companies, and precedent transactions. The Fund uses the S&P MidCap 400 Index as a performance benchmark, creating an inherent bias towards investment in public companies with a market capitalization between $2 and $10 billion.
